We are on a 4-day school week; our school is in session from 7:30-3:15 Tuesday-Friday. Teachers have PD (professional development) one Monday a month.

French opening in Columbia, MISSOURI. Columbia Independent School is seeking a French teacher to fill this position: French, Part-Time (approximately .75 FTE). Reports to: Middle and Upper School Director. Job Summary: CIS is a college-preparatory, independent school with a rich history of language education. The focus of the curriculum is to provide an individualized educational experience for each student. Class sizes are intentionally small in order to facilitate high quality teaching and mentorship. Students begin studying a modern language in the Junior Kindergarten program and continue with language study throughout their education at CIS. The Modern Language department is a key part of the school’s Global Perspectives program and a strength of the school’s curriculum. Candidates should have an interest in the global perspectives curriculum. Essential Duties and Responsibilities ● This position will require teaching the following courses: 7th Grade French 1B, French 2, French 3, and French 4/AP French.● Update and create curriculum in conjunction with the departmental goals● Work with students on an individual basis (as needed) outside of regularly scheduled class times● Provide regular feedback (written and verbal) to students and parents● Update learning management course page assignments on a daily basis ● Update electronic grade books on a regular basis ● Attend faculty, divisional, and departmental meetings as scheduled● Prepare progress reports and conduct conferences for students and parents● Collaborate with other departments on cross-curricular connections Other Duties ● Serve as an advisor to a group of 10-12 students ● Serve as an advisor for an academic club or social activity● Provide support for and chaperone middle or upper school functions (field trips, socials, dances, etc.)● Attend professional development opportunities● Serve as an ambassador for the school at Open Houses and other admissions or public relations activities Qualifications ● Native fluency in French and/or a degree in World Language Teaching Certification ● Teaching experience preferred● Detail-oriented individual with excellent time-management and organizational skills● Demonstrated passion for working with students of all ages and an understanding of the developmental needs of the age groups● Commitment to the success of every student● Proven collaborator and team member● Life-long learner with a growth mindset.
