DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Administer the Foreign Language Teacher Education (FLTE) program and related outreach activities:• In cooperation with relevant academic units and the Council on Teacher Education (CTE) coordinate the staffing and delivery of the professional education course sequence, including early field placement and student teaching in accordance with state certification standards.• Teach one course per academic year for the FLTE program.• Oversee financial aspects of unit management including control of the budget and allocation of resources.• Serve as member of the committee in charge of admissions into the FLTE program.• Coordinate efforts to assure compliance with Illinois State Board of Education standards.• Establish and maintain relationships and memberships in foreign language professional and teaching associations. g. Coordinate the development of outreach education and CPDU-earning offerings for teachers. Serve as the Clinical Experiences Program Coordinator of the FLTE program:• Provide information to student candidates on current program developments and requirements pertaining to professional preparation. Assure that candidates are placed in diverse clinical settings. Monitor candidates to assure that they continue to meet the requirements of the CTE Common Assessment Plan and the program-specific assessment requirements.• Work collaboratively with the Area of Specialization committee chairs, department heads, and the appropriate college administrators to ensure that all professional, state, and institutional standards are implemented, monitored, documented, and assessed according to CTE policy.• Recruit and supervise the university clinical experiences supervisors.• Recruit and coordinate efforts of cooperative personnel and clinical sites. Maintain contracts between the FLTE and CTE and the school districts/clinical sites. Assure that all cooperating personnel and clinical sites meet CTE standards and any additional requirements of the program. Serve as the Foreign Language Teaching Area Committee Co-Chair: • Formulate, initiate, implement and interpret policies related to the operation of the unit, as well as policies applicable campus or university-wide.• Monitor professional education preparation program curricula.• Assist in the development of criteria for admission and retention of students.• Review CTE and program assessment data.• Work collaboratively with the relevant academic departments, deans, and CTE staff to ensure that all the professional, state and institutional standards are implemented, monitored, and assessed according to CTE policy.
QUALIFICATIONSRequired:• Master’s degree in education, applied linguistics or in a foreign language or closely related field.• Experience in and commitment to teacher education.• Demonstrated experience leading and managing groups of professionals to accomplish projects and goals.• Record of successful experience in program development, implementation, assessment, preferably with teacher education.• Advising/mentoring experience.
Preferred:• Ph. D. in education, applied linguistics or in a foreign language. Bachelor’s degree in foreign language, English as a second language, or related field.• Experience in foreign language teaching at the pre-college level.• Foreign language teacher certification. Successful candidates will have exceptional communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Ability to work harmoniously with a wide range of constituencies, including faculty, staff, and students. Ability to work collaboratively. Awareness of, and sensitivity to, cultural and linguistic differences. Commitment to diversity and inclusion.
SALARY AND APPOINTMENT INFORMATIONThis is a full-time, non tenure-track 9-month appointment with one month summer salary for periodic work throughout the summer. The expected start date is August 16, 2022. Salary is commensurate with experience and qualifications.
